However, it’s interesting to note that many people still ask these questions about the city as there are still many misconceptions about it. It is generally believed that many Americans and Europeans have incorrect information about the city, so most are misled to think that Dubai is a country.

In 1973, the United Arab Emirates was founded when the seven emirates came to an agreement and decided to merge and form a single nation. It is also quite surprising to learn that only 11 percent of the UAE’s population consists of local Arab citizens, and that the rest are expats, which makes up the vast majority of the population. It is estimated that 21% of UAE residents hail from Pakistan, 42% from India. There are over 240,000 British and 40,000 American expats living in the UAE. Besides people of many different nationalities living here, a very high percentage of these people are Other Arabs, African, Canadian, European, and Filipino in origin.

What’s the currency of Dubai?

Officially, the dirham is an official currency of Dubai. It is represented by the symbol AED (which stands for Arabic Emirates Dirham) but it can also be represented by DH or Dirham. In United Arab Emirates, most hotels and restaurants accept a variety of currencies as cash or credit cards for payment, such as the British Pound, Euro, United States Dollar, plus other major currencies as well.

What Language is Spoken in Dubai ?

Even though Arabic is the official language in Dubai, English is widely spoken here, making it unique among Middle Eastern cities. In the airport and metro, announcements are made both in Arabic and English. Signs are also available in both languages, so you will not encounter any communication problems if you only speak English. There are also many languages spoken by expats in Dubai such as Urdu, Hindi, African, and Filipino.

Is Dubai Safe for Tourists?

Yes, Dubai is one of the safest cities on the planet. If it’s not safest why it’s getting a continually top position in tourist destinations? Even solo women can travel safely there.  Although the UAE is a Muslim country, Dubai is very far from traditional Islamic rules. Here, the rules are not as strict as in other Emirates. Being a modern city, Dubai welcomes tourists from all over the world and has tourist-friendly rules. You can wear a bikini in certain places, and non-Muslims can drink alcohol. No one dares to take your pictures unless you allow him to do so. However, unlike in western cities, the practice of public affection is STRICTLY prohibited. You can’t love or kiss in public places. UAE’s visa policy has changed in recent months and there have been a number of new rules introduced to the visa policy over the past few months. However, citizens of many countries can still enter the UAE with a visa on arrival. This includes passport holders from western, British, North and South American countries. This is provided that their passports are valid for more than six months and that their visit will not be longer than one month.

Is Dubai Expensive to Live?

Although Dubai is widely regarded as one of the world’s most expensive cities, there is no definitive answer to the question. As compared to New York City, Dubai has a cost of living that is 39% cheaper than New York City, and as compared to London, Dubai has a cost of living that is 35% cheaper than London’s to maintain the same standard of living.
